The Blackfeet Nation’s Climate Adaptation Plan
Termaine Edmo, Climate Change Coordinator for the Blackfeet Nation
Termaine will speak about her work developing and implementing the Blackfeet Nation's Climate Adaptation Plan. After providing an overview of the plan and the planning process, she’ll explore the plan’s innovative programs such as Beaver Mimicry, Regenerative Grazing and Buffalo Reintroduction, Snow Fences, Control Burns, and the Climate Adaptation cycles. She’ll finish by promoting this summer’s internships and the next steps towards a climate resilient Blackfeet Nation.
Termaine or Awa-naa-kii (Rattle Woman) is a Blackfeet and Shoshone-Bannock decedent. Born in Missoula, MT and raised in Browning by her grandmothers, Termaine was the first graduating class to come from the Blackfeet Nation’s private language immersion Cuts Wood school. She also received her A.A. in social work from Blackfeet Community College. While continuing her education at the University of Montana, Termaine landed an internship with USDA that led her to the Blackfeet Environmental Offices Blackfeet Climate Adaptation Planning committee and has seen the plan flourish from an idea to boots on the ground. Termaine also had the honor of growing up immersed in a cultural background where she serves as a cultural youth mentor to the youth in Blackfeet language, ceremonies and various traditional ecological knowledge. Termaines Educational goals are to finish earning her Bachelors of social work at the University of Montana and continue on to the Masters program at the school of social work focusing on social justice environmental impacts.
